In the village of Heeten, a 1932 Peugeot 301 has patiently waited for years to be ready for its first drive. This beautiful vehicle belongs to Theo Tepperik, who, with utmost precision and patience, has been restoring the car to its former glory.
Theo Tepperik, who began his journey tinkering with mopeds, found his calling in the world of engines and gasoline. He worked as a gas station attendant for a dealership that sold Lada and Zastava vehicles. Over time, a third brand, Peugeot, was added to the lineup, sparking Theo’s passion for this remarkable marque. His employer shared an interest in classic Peugeots, giving them plenty to talk about. One day, Theo’s employer invited him to take a look at a 1932 Peugeot 301. That moment would mark the beginning of a lifelong love affair with this historic vehicle. Initially purchased by the employer, the car remained unrestored, gathering dust in a corner of the garage. Nearly twenty years later, Theo had the opportunity to acquire the Peugeot 301 and seized it with both hands.
A 34-Year-Long Adventure
The restoration process has been ongoing for 34 years, but for Theo, it’s more than just a project—it’s a journey of love and dedication to a beautiful car. He visits the vehicle daily in his home garage, sometimes to devise a solution and other times to tackle significant tasks. The first time the engine roared to life, a sense of pride and accomplishment filled the garage where the Peugeot 301 had spent so many years. Along the way, countless molds have been made, sheet metal hammered, woodwork sawn, and even the paintwork completed by Theo himself.
Restoring a car of this magnitude has been a grand adventure. The original foundation of the vehicle was worn out, with just enough remaining to recreate the parts. For Theo, this challenge was part of the fun. The restoration is now 85% complete, with the upholstery next on the list. The most recent progress includes work on the door panels.
A Family Affair
Family and friends have grown accustomed to Theo spending hours in the garage. For his children, the sight of the 301 in the garage and their father working on it is just part of life. “Where’s Dad? He’s probably in the shed,” they’d say. While some may have their opinions about how long the restoration is taking, Theo pays no mind. The process brings him immense satisfaction, and he sees no rush to get the car back on the road. For now, the 301 is just fine right where it is!
