This is the most expensive Peugeot 403 convertible in the world

The Peugeot 403 convertible is already very rare and even more so when it is on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. However, a unique fact ensures that this car is for sale for an insane amount.

How can we forget the mythical American series Columbo that aired on television in the 80s and 90s? For the portrayal of the funny inspector with unorthodox methods, the actor Peter Falk, so the story goes, was commissioned to find a car that ‘fit’ the personality and neglected it a few days before the filming of the first episode appearance of his character. Ultimately, in the parking lot of Universal Studios, he crashed into a Peugeot 403 convertible that had already had a fairly rough life.

This 403 convertible, of which only 2,050 examples were produced between 1956 and 1961, is extremely rare in the United States. There are several theories about the presence of the French car that Peter Falk uses in the American series: one of them is that it is the old car of the French actor Roger Pierre who would have exchanged it for a Cadillac.

Anyway this car became the symbol of Columbo. From 1967 to 1978, four 403 convertibles were used in production. One of them was sold to a retired couple in Florida who kept it in its original condition. Still equipped with a rod for a camera, this shabby car is now for sale. The owners are asking $350,000 for it, or 322,264 in euros. At this exceptional price it is not at all certain that a buyer will be easily found.
